a great start for maglischo's trilogy for swimming. his works have reflected the change in science supporting the sport and evidence which marks the improvements that have occured in swimming in recent years. the law of diminishing returns highlights the ever increasing importance that the smaller things can contribute to the pushing the limits of human performance and endeavor. with the collection of this volume to his later works ('swimming even faster' and 'swimming fastest')one sees the progress and development of swimming that contributes to a more developed understanding for coaching competitive swimmers today. this becomes imperative in a sport that is still developing sport science and physiologically in countries like new zealand. swimming faster provides a bridge across the ever widening gap in these areas outlined above.

an excellent race-training reference

I'm primarily a rower, so I can't speak about the swimming-specific sections of this book. But I can rave about the more generally applicable sections. I've used this book for several years to design training programs for various rowing events, from 500 meters (about 1.5-2 minutes) to 2,000 meters (about 7-8 minutes) to head races (20 minutes and longer). Maglischo's explanations of how to balance the levels of effort in a training program for sprint or endurance events is tremendously helpful, as are the explanations of how to periodize training programs and create daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly programs.
The only tiny criticism I have of this book is that I would find it slightly more useful if the swimming distances included approximate times for the events. That way, it would make transferring the principles to comparable events in different sports more straightforward.
I recommend this book to any coach or athlete of any racing sport. You'll find not only physiological issues addressed, but also issues concerning pacing and race strategy -- a must for anyone desiring an internal focus during racing.

This is a scientific academic book for competitive swimming coachs. It covers various aspects of swimming: physiology, training, blood testing, tapering, stroke mechanics, guidelines for competition, diets, etc. The author E.W.Maglischo is a world-famous swimming coach at Arizona State University read many references, It made this book very persuasive. His first edition of this book was well received throughout the world, and made swimming coaching more scientific. This book is the second edition. If you are a swimming coach and want to be a better coach, you must read this because this is a world-standard book about swimming.

Spoilers are in the eye of the beholder...

The chief complaint that others seem to have about this book is that there are spoilers in places. Well, this is true, but they could be much more intrusive than they actually are. None of the big plot twists were spoiled by what little narrative Hollinger includes, which is really necessary to allow the reader to follow instructions.
And the spoiler content is really irrelevant -- what matters is that the book is excellent in all other respects. Its breakdown of where to find the 108 stars is thorough and helpful, as are its careful explanation of how to get each ending, its list of the recipes for the cooking mini-game and its timetable for the Clive/Elza subquest. Beyond that, there are a lot of gorgeous color pictures and complete dungeon maps, which are always a big plus.
Overall, this is a guide I wouldn't want to be without.

Everything you'd expect from Prima

People like to complain about spoilers but how can you buy a game guide and not expect spoilers to be in it? If you don't like spoilers quit complaining and do the game yourself. This guide is excellent in that it contains locations of numerous items (window/sound sets), lists of character unites and lists of where to recruit all 108 stars as well as nonstars among other things. The guide part of course contains spoilers but only because it tells you how to beat the game. This guide is definatly worth it if you want to know how to have a perfect game.

God book, but (no matter what others say) spoilers GOTTA GO!

This was actually the most impressive guide Prima has done in a while. Tells where/how to get each of the 108 stars, full maps (thank you!), strategies, and even lists which foods are best and worst during the cookoffs! However... the spoilers, which Prima has become famous for, are littered throughout this book. You can pick up the strategy guide and just read it instead of playing the game... the experience is quite similar! And no, a game guide does -not- need spoilers to be great... look at any Versus Books strategy guide, and you can tell that. So please Prima... make us gamers happy and get rid of the spoilers! It is -not- that hard (and to read about someone's death/betrayal/killing another/whatever in game is annoying!!)

Best period costume book ever

This book is the best overview of a fashion period I have ever seen. I am a professional costume designer and have a large library of books on period costumes and this one is the best. So much information in a small package, gives just the right amount of information and pictures needed to give you a feel for the period. Covers everything from underwear to communion dresses. Wish she would write some more books!!

Dear Amazon,

I purchased this book from Amazon as a birthday gift for my daughter, who loves 1920s fashions.

I was delighted when the book arrived in plenty of time for her birthday on 14 May, and much earlier than Amazon's estimated delivery time.

My daughter LOVES this book and I do too! It is filled with beautiful colour illustrations of the fashions of the time, including underwear, children's and men's fashions too. It also has a considerable amount of historical information regarding what was happening in the world during the 1920s.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the 1920s and what women were wearing during that decade.

Nice diagrams and pictures

I've always wanted to learn how to play the piano. This book not only teaches basic notes and scales but technique as well. It has nice diagrams and pictures to make learning much easier. It is very simple and has a nice step by step approach to teaching. I like that it has YouTube videos to accompany the book. It's great for the visual learner!

Thorough, yet easy

Not only does this book teach you technique and form, but also helps get that muscle memory moving by taking you deep into the pianist's mind. An example, shared quite early on in the book tells the beginner to not only play the simple three note exercise with their right hand, but to say the note names as they play as well. Incredibly simple, but also incredibly effective.

While the book is easy enough to follow along with - provided YOU have the desire and drive to learn - I must say the best part about this release is the related free video lessons on the YouTube channel. As long as you have an internet connection, you have a digital piano teacher to assure you along the way. Other books may have more detailed writing, trying to explain how to position your fingers to play a certain scale, but actually seeing it done on your computer screen is a godsend.

Overall, for the the price, and including the free video lessons, I believe this is one of the best beginner piano books out there. Now it is up to YOU to become the pianist you've always dreamt of.

It will get you playing

If you want to learn proper theory and technique then this is the piano book to get. As a piano teacher, it is nice to come across a book that covers this from the beginning to advanced levels. This is important even for the casual player. It improves performance and minimizes the chance of a hand injury. You don't want to stress the hands. If you are trying to teach yourself, check out the accompanying youtube videos.

The ebook is quite handy. Next time one of my students forget their books, I'll just pull this up on my phone! The instructions and pictures are easy to follow. I will be supplementing this to the current books I teach from. This book doesn't have songs in it. That's a good thing. Many songs in lesson books tend to be outdated. Not everyone likes that. Following this book, you'll be able to jam to your fav tunes in no time, and hopefully make up some of your own.

A must read for dental professionals to update vital info!

Every working and instructing dental professional should readthis text concerning medically compromised patients. It updates, aswell as reviews, the important topics that are seen every day in private practice. Especially important is the areas of TB, HIV, and diabetes, although recent information may need to be added by the practioner (check out internet sites for these). Introductory tables are a must for reference in a clinical situation. I have used it a reference text in my clinical practice and in my continuing education courses.

Most used textbook during my residencies!

This was an invaluable book that I only glanced at a few times during dental school, but during both my hospital based-general practice residency and pediatric residency was my constant guide. It provides both medical and dental management for most encountered problems that patients present with and has lots of great quick reference tables!

Not for everyone, not anymore!

A little bit out-of-date in the way body systems are reviewed in the Center (body) part of the book. Principally, the single section that I found valuable throughout my Dental school was the summary review of systems that is offered at the front of the book, which worked as a fast reference (basically, I tore that section off from the rest of the book!). Nevertheless, it might still work in a better way when it comes to being used by some residents in certain fields like that of surgery, GPR, AEGD, and so forth where they need to go over the boring center (body) of the book.
