good starting point for google

First off, about first 60 pages are wasted with a very introductory description of the various Labview palettes. So you'd think it's a newbie friendly book... Forget it ..Later on, it presents interesting tricks but you got to be really advanced yourself to "get it". Not quite the "step by step" other referals praise so much. But I admit, the tricks are neat, and if you're beyond the basics and good enough to think about architecting large projects, I would highly recommend the book.

Avoid At Any Cost

This is one of the worst technical books I have had the misfortune of wasting money on. The text was clearly not proofread to any useful extent. This high school term paper that claims to present "advanced" techniques appears to be the result of a class project rather than a professional undertaking to address material of interest to competent, advanced LabVIEW users. It is amazing what people can publish and receive money for these days . . .

Good Book if You're Beyond Basics

I've been programming for about two years. Most of my training in Labview is by trial-and-error and reading the examples that came with Labview. I've written over 3 dozen programs for my present employer.
As for books, I have many of them. This book in particular, is aimed to the advanced user. Don't expect to learn how to write programs with this book. For a graphical programming language, this book has very little graphics or pictures.
What you can expect is to hone your applications so that they are easier for the end user, easier to maintain and separates `working' VIs from `expert' VI. Many little tricks in this book (such as setting preferences, using state machines, and yes, Active X) will make your applications run faster with less overhead.
If you're looking for a book to show you more programming techniques, with actual examples, I'd opt for Essick's "Advanced LabVIEW Labs" (an intermediate book) or Johnson's "LabVIEW Graphical Programming" (more advanced). If you're looking for ways to separate yourself from programmers that make `working' VIs, then this book by Bitter et al. is for you.

Mr. Allen explains the secret if success in terms of universal principles at work in our lives. That these principles, like the principles of mathematics, are at work whether we know or acknowledge them, leads to the conclusion that by familiarizing ourselves with these principles and applying them brings us into line with God's design for us and consequently brings harmony and success in every aspect of our lives.

One of the best books for understanding God and Life

I first read this book 13 years ago and it has had a profound impact on my life.
In this book, R.C. Allen explains in practical terms; how to lead a successful life. The basic principle is being in harmony with God's will by being of service to others. He shows how God rewards those who follows this path. I have benefited greatly by this book: mentally, spiritually and materially. I was glad to see it back in print and have ordered several to pass on to others.

I am R.C. Allens grandson and after he passed away in the 1990s I decided to read this book for the fun of it. It spends some amount of time on eastern philosophy, mentioning the concept of the "3rd Eye", and mixes positive meditation and "Christian faith" into some sort of hybrid method for achieving success. This almost makes me suspect my grandfather was years ahead of his time. In any case the book is very good to read and it will leave any reader with a strong "positive" feeling when they finish the book. The book spends a great deal of time teaching you how to think positive, have faith in Christ, and learn now to make your prayers work for you.

About the Author

Karl F. B. Payne works as a clinical fellow in oral and maxillofacial surgery at King’s College Hospital in London. He founded the online, open-access trainee journal Face Mouth & Jaw Surgery. Alexander M. C. Goodson works as a clinical fellow at King’s College Hospital. He is the founder of King’s Maxillofacial Seminars, a regional teaching program aiming to prepare junior surgeons for entry into specialty training programs. Arpan S. Tahim works as a clinical fellow at King’s College Hospital. He has taught on numerous courses aimed at enhancing surgical skills in medical students and junior doctors, and has set up regional teaching programs and online learning resources for junior oral and maxillofacial trainees. Nabeela Ahmed is a registrar training in London and works at King’s College Hospital. Kathleen Fan is a consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery at King’s College Hospital. She is also an honorary senior lecturer in oral and maxillofacial surgery at King’s College London and is a PhD supervisor, coordinating research within the oral and maxillofacial surgery department of King’s College Hospital. Professor Mark McGurk is the chair of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Guy’s Hospital. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals that include his own surgical results and has edited five major texts. He is a past president of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a member of the board of the faculty of dental surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, and is chairman of the High Claims Committee of Dental Protection Limited.

Can't Live Without It (but using 4th edition)

This was the first book I ever purchased in SLP. My prof instructed us to buy for building our professional library. At the time, I thought THANKS A LOT. I thought I had just wasted money on a book I didn't need for the class. Since that time, I have used this book for countless term papers, clinical reports, cross referencing more difficult texts, and looking up spellings regularly. My addition has several developmental charts and testing indexes. My only complaint is that the more medicaly based terminology is missing(ie: the anatomical structures are realy just the greatest hits of the larynx and brain, and I am a bit lost when it comes to none SLP or AUD measures at the hospital rotations). I hope this has been improved for the new edition, but at the same time would hate it to become to cumbersome to use. I am nearing the end of my Masters' and coming up on the Praxis exam. I intend to use this as a way to study across several topics in the field. All in all a GREAT REFERENCE!

Great resource!

This book is a must-have for any communication science undergrad or speech-language pathology graduate student! I am currently in my final year of grad school, completing my first internship; and, I sure wish I'd had this during the past few years of coursework. I will definitely be using it as a reference during the rest of my internship and CFY. It will also be very helpful to use while studying for the PRAXIS. The book contains definitions, black and white diagrams, as well as very useful reference charts and tables in the back. Well-worth the money!

By far, the most useful book for an SLP

I originally purchased this book as a requirement for an undergraduate class over 10 years ago. Since then, this text is by far the most used reference book I have in my collection. Aside from aiding research as a student, I continually refer to this book as a working professional, first as a contract speech therapist for post-stroke adults, and now as a school-based SLP. I find the charts and reference materials in the back are what I use the most. Although I own other reference guides (like Hedges treatment and diagnostic books), this one has proven the most useful and cost-effective over time. I am writing this review because I am buying the 5th edition to replace my now worn and battered 4th edition. All SLPs should seriously consider buying this book, regardless of your specialty or work location!
